Q. Who was BATE? 

A. Bate, Philip Argall Turner (1909–1999), now best known as the founder of the Bate Collection was by profession a radio and TV producer, geologist, paleaontologist, scholar, an amateur actor and clarinettist. He was also a founding member of The Galpin Society

Q. What are your opening hours? 

A. Monday – Friday 14.00 – 17.00, Saturday 10.00 – 12.00 (Oxford Full Term Only). For further details, check our homepage.

Q. How can I book an education workshop? 

A. Check which session you are interested in on our Education page. You can request a booking by emailing bate.collection@music.ox.ac.uk. Please give as much information about your group as possible.

Q. How can I get Bate Collection postcards, sound recordings, or other merchandise? 

A. You can purchase Bate merchandising by visiting the museum shop HERE or by contacting the Bate by telephone on 01865 276139 or by email on bate.collection@music.ox.ac.uk. We accept credit cards payments. For further details check our contact page.

Q. How do I get permission to inspect an instrument or study archives? 

A. You should first write to us, explaining your area of interest and ask to make an appointment.
