Seating plan for a dinner Baines attended at University College in June 1980. A note in the corner (in the handwriting of Patricia Baines) indicates that this was her husband’s departure dinner: it was around this time he retired from his post as Lecturer/Curator of the Bate Collection.
Note the attendance at this ‘Wives’ Dinner’ of Dr Helen Cooper (on the right), later Professor of English Language and Literature, who in 1978 was the first woman to become a fellow at University College, formerly an all-male college.
