Tuesday 26th May - Holywell Music Room

Songs of Love, War & Melancholy - Anneke Scott (natural horn) & Steven Devine (piano)

Considered the last great natural horn virtuoso Jacques-François Gallay was ranked alongside the top instrumentalists of 19th century France. In addition to his solo career he was principal horn of the influential Théâtre Italian in Paris and professor at the Paris Conservatoire. This recital, which gives a taste of Scott and Devine’s forthcoming disc (Resonus Classics), includes works by Gallay and arrangements of Schubert, Czerny and Mendelsohn, music influenced by both opera and lieder repertoire which supports Gallay’s assertion that the natural horn was “another voice which sings”.

Concert starts at 7.30

Admission:Tickets: £12/£10 available on the door or from the Oxford Playhouse
